About Black River Shot Company
Forged from four generations of passion and precision, Black River Shot Co creates premium tungsten shot shells trusted by serious waterfowl and turkey hunters. Built to perform in the harshest conditions, our shells deliver unmatched knockdown power with eco-friendly options like Green Head Wads.

With four generations of shotgunners in our family, this isn’t just a hobby — it’s our way of life. It all started with Grandpa Sherm, who lit the fire for shotgunning in all of us. That passion carried on: my mom, Sally, became a world champion, an All-American skeet shooter, and a dedicated hunter.
My son Connor, an agricultural science teacher, FFA advisor, and 4-H shotgun coach, has guided his teams to state championships three out of the last four years, with a runner-up finish in between. In 2024, Connor claimed victory at the Yooper Side by Side Classic in Negaunee.
As for me — Sherm II — I’m a world-class skeet shooter with multiple world championships and numerous All-American team selections under my belt. As a AAA shooter across all four skeet gauges, with over 50,000 registered targets, I bring an intimate, firsthand knowledge of shotguns, shotshells, and true performance.
Together, Connor and I raise over 3,000 pheasants each year for a local shooting preserve, giving us the unique opportunity to test loads and refine shell development.
Our motto says it all: You owe it to the game. Give them the best shell possible.
Why Did We Choose Tungsten Shot?
At Black River Shot Co, we believe hunters deserve the best. That’s why every shell we make is loaded with tungsten shot — the densest, hardest-hitting material legal for waterfowl and turkey hunting.
- More Density = More Power
Tungsten is almost twice as dense as steel, giving you tighter patterns and devastating knockdown power at longer ranges. - Smaller Pellets, Bigger Impact
Because tungsten carries more energy, you can shoot smaller pellet sizes and still penetrate cleanly — meaning more pellets on target and fewer crippled birds. - Legal & Ethical
Lead has been banned for waterfowl hunting. Tungsten not only meets regulations but outperforms other non-toxic alternatives like steel and bismuth. - Built for Harsh Hunts
From flooded timber to windy open water, tungsten maintains its performance where lesser loads fail.
Choosing tungsten isn’t just about following the rules — it’s about respect for the hunt and giving hunters the confidence that every pull of the trigger counts. Buy yours today and experience the difference for yourself.
